One of the ways to keep children safe when browsing the web is that whenever they encounter weird or unknown words or pictures, tell them to consult a responsible adult in what to do and how should it be dealt with.
Another way is to tell them the horrible truth about all these junkies that will take their happy lives away. Exaggerate if needed to make sure they’re not interested in such things.
Keep a look out on your child’s behavior on the web. Surveillance all their web activity like what they download, what games do they play and what kind of music they listen to.
By using parental control software, it will enhance the surveillance capabilities.
Be reasonable. Guide your kids and give them an understanding what will they risk if they use the web for wrong purposes. Tell them what they can do and what you will do to keep surfing safe. Give them your trust, show them that we too don’t interest in such ill mannered surfing ways. Guiding them little by little, don’t overdo it or else they may not want to follow us and tend to go in the wrong way.
Keep track of your child’s daily activity. Know who their friends are, how their like and give them the idea of choosing the right friend. Wherever they surf the net other than at home, be sure that the place is also a ‘keep clean surfing’ zone.
When giving out personal information, tell them to try not give out the real thing. Tell them to try and skip that step, if you can’t do so than don’t join the site. Another way is to give out relatively almost true information or directly false info to keep others from knowing who they are.
Be sure to tell them to get an approval from the adult when posting up pictures on the net. Personal images need to be notified by their parents so that they know what they’re doing with it and so that privacy is insured. Also tell them not to share with anyone. Only share it with those who are close to them, someone who he/she really knows offline.
Lastly, tell your children not to ever trust or even talk to strangers. Tell them to consult to a responsible adult first when trying to make a new friend online. Warn them that what they see or meet people online may not be what they appear.
Overall, the article agreed that internet gave children more bad influence then good and agreed that having a safe site for children to surf is a must. All the method that had been given by the article is to make sure that our children are safe from the bad of internet world.

adult can put password to any link that is not suitable for the children.
its one of the way to prevent the children.
I suppose it's true that the internet gives out a more bad influence on children, especially since they can't differentiate between what's good and bad to begin with.
Parental guidance in using the net is important enough that what they expose to their children will last up to their adulthood.
"Be reasonable. Guide your kids and give them an understanding what will they risk if they use the web for wrong purposes."
-is by far the most useful advice ever next to putting up passwords and blocking sites added with strict security over the computer and frequent checking of the history folders after every child-internet usage, etc etc.
Maybe they should just invent a web browser specifically for kids that includes only kid-related websites and materials?
